When will the 200″A” arrive?
I’m finally about 2 months away from being able to purchase 2 HVX200s and I told myself that as soon as the time was drawing close I would start looking for rumors of a new version of the camera. The last thing I want to do is buy 2 of these and have them replaced the next week!
Here are my questions:
Has there been any official or unofficial talk of a possible “A” model?
Does anyone remember how much time passed between the 100 and 100A?
Is it too early to speculate if 1080P will be the big step for the next model?

1080p is available now! See your dealer for details.

Available now? On what? I thought the 200 went up to 1080i. That’s what the Panasonic website says. I’m either out of the loop or someone is lying to me! 🙂

It shoots 24p wrapped in a 60i wrapper, similiar to what the DVX does in SD. You will have to remove the pulldown in post.

I always thought the “P” in 24P, 30P, etc. was different from the “P” in 1080P and 720P. I thought it had something to do with the number of lines of resolution but I just did a little reading and I guess that’s not true. I think I just learned something, but somehow I’m even more confused…but I’ll stop there since this forum isn’t about Ps and Is.
Thanks for the info about the 1080P Jeremy, I guess that answers one of my questions! Anyone else know anything about the next generation HVX?

You don’t buy a new mac tower a week before WWDC and you don’t buy a new camera a week before NAB. Any other time if you have the work lined up and need it now, just buy it. It will always do what it does and will start paying for itself as soon as you get it. Besides, there is nothing else like it. I doubt we will see anything new till NAB and that could only be an anouncement.

I’d say it’s a safe time to buy. Any A model is at least an NAB off- that’s next April to announce and who know when to ship. And that’s still total speculation. Always buy when you need and just accept that it will be replaced by something faster/better/newer tomorrow. I still shoot on my original DVX100 and no one is mad at me for not shooting with the A or B variation…

On the contrary Noah, I’ll bet there are some people that ARE GLAD you shot with your DVX-100 and have benifitted from the better quality you were able to provide with it! (ie: you bought it when it was available and had it for those first jobs rather than waiting, sitting on the fence and making do with your old gear.) The DVX100 is an awesome camera. It kinda stole the roost from the PD170 mainly due to the progressive frame rates.

Well it’s not really the plane it’s the pilot at the end of the day. I definitely have lost exactly zero jobs to a worse shooter who happened to have an A or B.
