When using Avid, must you have video stored on local computer, or can it be on a local Network?
I want to be able to work on Video from two different computers {not the same video at the same time} but be able to work on different videos from computer to computer on the same network. Is this possible, or do I need an removeable external drive to move from one machine to another.

I’d go with the external drive thing. Were you talking about trying to edit through your ethernet connection? I don’t think you can do that, even with DV. I’m assuming you are a DV user right?
