Ok, I’ve been using Premier Pro for about 5 years now but AE is new to me. My question is, at what point do I add my effect using AE?

    For example:
I just shot a 30 bit that will require an effect lasting only about 4 seconds in two different scenes, now I obviously have about 20 minutes of actual shooting of all this with multiple actor takes and lighting senerios.

So do I edit the whole bit and then import the whole thing to AE to add my effects, or do I just just import the files that include the scenes where the effects need to be, trim them down, then render as an AVI and re add the clip to my project in premier for editing?

I did try adding the effect to one scene last night and then added it back to Premier but it looked a little blurry cause it was a second generation AVI even though the render says “Lossless”.

It would be great if someone could straighten me out on exactly when and how to do this. Thanks.

If you have CS3/4 you can import your AE project into Premier without having to render anything more then once. Not sure if that works with any earlier versions though…

If you’re into making short films I’d really recommend The DV Rebels Guide which has loads on the AE/Premier workflow and how to get the best looking video from even the most budget cameras.

Only in after effects do children get to pick and whip their parents.

Hmmmm? I’m still not sure when I add the effects, before I begin editing the spot or after the video is done except for the FX.

Unfortunatly I only have Premiere Pro 2.0, but I do have CS4 AE.
