  • When to use 23.98PD

Posted by Jack Johnson on March 15, 2011 at 9:49 pm

I’m capturing some HDCAM 23.98 footage and I came across a menu setting on the Sony J-H3. I understand that the PD in 23.98 stands for pull down, but I don’t understand when that setting needs to be implemented and what exactly it does.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

The Sony J-H3 VTR has the 23.98PD setting to add pull-down so you can output a 29.97 signal from a 23.98PsF recorded tape.

So the J-H3 is actually converting the footage from 23.98 to 29.97 in the 23.98PD setting?

and depending how you have TC settings could be generating Drop frame code from NDF source which can be a very bad thing in offline / online scenarios
