When Recapturing All Tapes Drops Out
My friend, who I am helping out, is having a major movie problem. The capture scratches were deleted. So all of the footage is offline, and has to be recaptured and reconnected.
We started doing that, and only three tapes have logged (batch capture) and reconnected successfully.
We have tried two different decks and a camera, three firewires, and two diffent computers (IMacs w/ FCPS2 6.05).
All the tapes begin to play and suddenly stop as if there is a timecode break or a glitch. However, there is no time code break – the tape wasn’t even stopped in the recording process. It’s hard to believe that every single deck has a problem, but it’s even more hard to believe that every single tape but a few have a timecode break. There are approximately 75 tapes…it’s a reality show.
We think this might be the problem – when some of the tapes were originally captured, there was no “pre-roll” before he hit “capture” “now.” So because there is no extra tape on the ends to “grab,” those tapes won’t recapture, thus won’t reconnect. Does this make sense…?
But we really have no idea. Please let me know if there are any solutions. (We’ve also made sure the abort capture check boxes are NOT checked.)
Thanks
