  • When installing FCStudio – Is there a good reason to send content to 2nd HD

I just installed a 2nd internal hard drive and performed a complete erase install of OS X 10.4 – I’m about to do a fresh install of Final Cut Studio 5. Is there any good reason to use the custom install window to send content such as Apple loops, Motion content, LiveType 2 media, etc. to 2nd hard drive? There is 144GB available on system HD and a fully available 250 Seagate #2 drive.

Most of that stuff will take up about 40GB. It’s really up to you. If you plan on using the 2nd drive for media, if it were me, I’d want to keep as much of that second drive open for media. Media drives tend to get a heavier workout than other drives, so they can fail sooner. If you lose a media drive with all your app media on it, then you have to reinstall all that stuff too. That’s a real pain.

If you have external storage and don’t plan on using that drive for media, then if it were me, I’d spread out the media on to that second internal.
