  • When i import my video and audio is not synced properly

I am having a periodic problem when I import footage into Final Cut pro.:

Background: Camera Sony VX2100, Powermac 1.25gz Duo, Powerbook 1.5gz, FCPDH 4.5, External hard drives both Maxtor and Seagate, both 7200 RPM Firewire, Sony DSR-30 DVCAM.

    Situation:
    I shoot a wedding with the vx2100 on SP ( 1 hour)
I import the tape on a DSR-30 via firewire
I have also imported it directly to the computers from the camera with the same occurrence

Problem: The audio is off 20 to 100 frames from the video. In other words is not synced.

The tape plays and sounds fine on the camera and DSR-30. It becomes unsynced during the import.

I fix it by resyncing it, but is there a permanent fix?

when you play back the imported footage(=when you notice it to be out sync) where does the video signal go through, and where does the audio signal go through?

When I have this problem, it’s playing on my computer, going through an AJA IO, and either onto my monitor, or to my Beta deck. Worst part is it’s not a straight “it’s off by X frames” problem, and sometimes it seems as if it’s off more than other times, so I get it lined up PERFECTLY, but then re-edit some other area and the audio is out os sync… again.

And what I see/hear on my computer during editing is pretty much what I get on tape.

    Does that help?

Some tapes come in fine and some are off synced. I am hearing the audio from the speakers in the computer.

Once I resync it is ok thoughout the segment. The question is why it is off in the first place.
