  • When I duplicate a sequence my audio tracks change?

Posted by Paz Derien on November 26, 2012 at 9:38 pm

Hi, still getting used to PP after over a decade in FCP. Pretty much liking it with a few exceptions, one of them is the audio stuff.

When I duplicate a sequence (which I do ALL THE TIME), the audio settings change. Specifically, my “channel output mapping” settings change. So let’s say I have a sequence and channel 1 is mapped to go out to channels 1 and 2, and channel 2 is also mapped to go out channel 1 and 2. When I then duplicate that sequence, the mapping has changed back to the default, with channel 1 just going out of channel one, etc….so I have to manually reset it everytime, which is a bummer, and it causes problems if I forget, etc. I am very surprised that I can’t find a solution, and that there is no discussion of this on the board.

It is also possible that I am doing this all very inelegantly, I basically want to deal with audio as two discrete mono channels, like I always did in FCP. So that, for example, my lav mic (channel one) is all the way up and goes to both channels, and myonboard is turned down to -30db and also goes to both channels.

    Any input appreciated.

There is no reason to have all the crazy double tracks like in FCP. If you want your left channel from the mic go out to both channels there is an effect called Fill Right/Left that will take the signal from either channel and duplicate it to the one missing.
You won’t have mono channels all the time and that’s why PrP does not breaks the audio clips in two tracks.
I know it might be weird and hard for you, but is just a matter of getting used to it.
Whenever I edited in FCP I will go crazy mad with those two separate tracks. It is just getting used to it.

Thanks! I guess one man’s ‘crazy double tracks’ is another man’s ‘stereo’. I am sure I will get used to how premiere handles audio (I have to) but I still can’t figure out why the audio output would change when I duplicate a sequence. And I’m bewildered that it’s not more complained-about. I have to duplicate sequences all the time because I have to do different versions of my masters (with and without watermark, etc), so it’s a big time sink to re-do the audio all the time. Again thanks.

What if you add te watermark as a video track. That way you just have to turn it on/off whenever you need it. Is weird that your sequences change every time you duplicate them. It never happened to me before.

Not a bad idea at all! There are some nuances I would have to work out to make that work, but it might be less hassle overall…

I have the same problem. Does anyone have a solution?
