Im working on some large HDV sequences. Each project is around 200gigabytes, all on external HD’s.

    1. Each time i open a project, it indexes every single clip. This takes around 45 minutes, and i can barely edit during this time.
    2. I’ve noticed that the longer i work on a project file, the larger the /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Media Cache folder gets. It’s filled with “.mcdb” files, which is some sort of intermediate file for other adobe applications. It’s like it’s rendering everything all over again every time i open Premiere. After a week worth of work, the folder is going over 100 gigs. Cant i just switch this off somewhere?

    Whats going on?

All clips where captured on a PC running CS4. They are all .mpegs. Im working on Mac Os X 10.6.4 on an Intel Imac.

Any ideas? This is driving me nuts!

The problem is most likely due to the fact that you are working on an external HD.

You should go in your preferences and change the location of your media cache folder on a local drive. You should also change the location of your scratch discs to a local drive.

Finally, assign a drive letter to your external drive that is further in the alphabet to be sure that it doesn’t change. You can do that by right clicking on my computer then select manage.
