    Hi,

I’m just wondering what the trick is to acheiving the “digital” alomost TV-look on the image banner at the top of this page https://www.depechemode.com/news/magazines.html
My guess is that its a layer of lines with a photograph in the layer beneath it with a certain layer blend mode. Could this be correct or are there any alternative quick tips on acheiving this look. How would you do it?

    Kind Regards / Alex

If you mean that big shot of the trees and ocean… just draw a line in Illustrator, dupe it however many times and use Align to get them close.

Cut and paste the lines into Photoshop (as pixels) and use the Bevel and Emboss filter to add just a little edge and shadow.

YOu could also lighten the Level of the image a little.

    In Photoshop,try this.

Open a new document in photoshop that is 4 pixels high and 1 pixel wide. Use the pencil to make the top two pixels black.
Under edit menu choose define pattern and name it video scan lines or something.
Go to the original image and create a new layer. Under Edit menu choose fill. In the dialog box that opens under “use” choose pattern. Pick the Video scan line pattern.

The layer will fill up with white and black lines. Try playing with your blend modes and opacity on this layer until you get what you like.

Thanks guys for your time and insight in answering this.
DAblo, that’s a practical approach, creating a pattern and using it to fill a layer. Clever, clever!
