  • What’s the Max resolution for a 16×9 DVD?

Posted by Todd Roush on May 2, 2008 at 7:42 am

In Premiere 6.5 with my old Canopus rig the only choice seems to be 16×9 480 x 720 which seems to down convert from 480 x 840.

Should I strive to maintain the 840? I use DVD Architect 2 to author so I’m sure I might have to change some things there as well.

    Thanks.

It does not downconvert, it’s just that the pixels are not square, so on display it will look right.
720 x 480 is the max. Smaller is possible on a DVD, larger isn’t.
Dive into the square/non square/anamorphic math, you’ll need it to make good looking things.

I use DVD architect so I don’t have to worry about MATH……..

Hated that! Then sometimes it would not work out for whatever reason. Are we monkeys?

DVD architect takes the DV AVI and optimizes it for the disk in the click of a button. Then it does the conversion.

    Love that.

Never met another DVD authoring program that I actually liked.

Anamorphic 16×9 is 720×480 resolution, with a 1.2 pixel aspect ratio.
