  • what’s the deal with free coremelt plugins?

Email I got from the COW said they were free. I downloaded and installed. Nothing… Do I need FX factory? If so, what’s the deal with FX factory. I really don’t like having to load one thing, just to find out I need to load something else to get thing “A” to work. I guess that’s the catch. It must have been buried in the license agreement somewhere. Has anybody had any negative experiences loading FX factory?

Yes, you need FX Factory. You also need OS 10.5.

FxFactory is a pretty cool effects plugin coding framework and installing it will give you access to a whole rack of free and commercial FxPlug plugins that are based on that framework. Thats pretty much both the Pro’s and the Con’s of it. Great plugins but they won’t run without the development framework installed too.

    butting in:
idustrial’s tool is free. Most of the people writing plugs for FxFactory offer freebies. They are remrkable additions to Motion and FCP. The filters you can purchase from these suppliers for real money are even more spectacular.
Warning: the installation and activation system for FxFactory is a bit off-putting. Just read the instructions carefully. Read them again. You will find the whole thing needlessly intimidating the first time.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

Hi there, this is Roger from CoreMelt, feel free to chuck questions at me. You don’t need 10.5 to run Veeyou or FxFactory 2.0.3 they both run just fine on 10.4.11

You also don’t need to purchase Fxfactory, you install the “plugin engine” which enables a range of plugins from CoreMelt and other Noise Industries partners.

Please note you don’t have to install FxFactory to use the After effects version, (mac only) it’s a completely standalone set of plugins.

    sorry for any confusion

    Hi Roger

Any chance you fine fine folks will release a version of FxFactory Pro that can compile standalone FxPlug’s that don’t require the FCS enduser install FxFactory itself? That would be a whole heap more enticing to developers and endusers alike I think. Go on, you know you want to …

    Please 🙂

    Cheers

that’s an interesting idea Andy and I do see the value of that. Can you tell me why in particular you want that functionality?

no mystery Roger. my feeling is simply that FxFactory authored plugins are less desirable to an end user because they don’t “just work” as is, instead they require the user to install FxFactory as well. as a plugin developer I’d want anyone who uses my plugins to be able to do so without such a caveat.

personally, i’d be glad to install the whole shebang in order to use the authoring environment but at the end of the day I don’t want the product to require the same. truth be told, this is the exact reason I haven’t bought FxFactory or use FxFactory based plugins myself, although I’ve recommended it/them many times.

    Hi Roger,

Could you tell me how to go about UNINSTALLING the CoreMelt and NoiseIndustries plugins ? Or ultimately, how to uninstall FX Factory ? I’m having problems when exporting my material and this seems to be the only obstacle preventing me from exporting film.

    Thank you !
