What’s the cheapest avid that can output 12 channel audio?
Posted by David Green on May 26, 2010 at 5:35 pmCan I do 12 channel audio output on a Mac- based Avid? I dread moving to PC.
If so which Avid? What is the cheapest avid system that does 12 channels audio out?
Does anyone know of any used systems out there or upgrade specials from Media Composer DNxHD? thanks

May 26, 2010 at 11:02 pmI think 12 channel audio is only available in HD-SDI output, so the cheapest option would be a Mojo DX. I’m outputting 12ch audio as we speak. Mixes plus stems to HDCam SR via a Mojo DX. Working well.

May 27, 2010 at 5:58 am– Matrox MXO2 Mini (Starting with MC5, available June 10, 2010) is output-only, with Component Video / 2ch unbalanced Audio / HDMI (up to 8ch of HMDI embedded audio)
– Mojo SDI has SD-SDI / Component / S-Video / Composite I/O, 4ch unbalanced analog audio / 4ch AES/EBU / 4ch Optical I/O
– Mojo DX has HD-SDI/SD-SDI I/O, (no analog video out), 8ch ADAT / 2ch SPDIF / 2x balanced analog audio I/O, HDMI output: https://www.avid.com/static/resources/documents/datasheets/MC_MojoDX_ds_US_sec.pdf
– Nitris DX has all that Mojo DX has, plus 4:4:4 HD-SDI (MC5 only), Component / S-Video / Composite video I/O, 8ch AES/EBU I/O, two more channels of balanced audio I/O, two additional RCA inputs, headphone output: https://www.avid.com/static/resources/documents/datasheets/MC_NitrisDX_ds_US_sec.pdf
Mojo SDI runs around 2500 USD, Mojo DX runs between 5K and 7K USD, Nitris DX is 10K USD.

September 9, 2010 at 1:02 amyeah the nitris does 16ch audio embedded in HDSDI, but i rigged my Adrenaline to output up to 12 channels to my SR deck in 2 passes. The box only embeds 8 audio channels in the HDSDI, but i can send audio out of the AES EBU ports and route them into any channels on the back of the deck I choose. 2 passes though. but it saves us $12k that we would have spent on a new box.
