What’s the best way to edit videos entirely generated from 3d or AE – as PNG, DV, Animation, PhotoJPG?

February 8, 2006 at 7:21 pmI have a ton of footage generated from Max and AE and I need to be able to edit it quickly in FCP
It’s rendered as Targa files originally – But this feels sluggish in FCP –
Is converting it to DV QT files the only way to get good performance out of FCP? Or will converting to PNG QT keep the quality and allow me to edit smoothly.
Or is there another option I haven’t considered yet?
Thanks!

February 8, 2006 at 7:30 pmWhat is their pixel dimensions? What is your target destination for this? You might look into uncompressed 8-bit or Motion Jpeg at 75% for higher res. But all this depends on what your final destination is.

The desination will be the highest quality QT file that will play on a laptop fullscreen (for presentations) – I’m assuming 720×480 QT h.264 files paired with a duplicate in half res for web.
all progressive –
Optionally we’ll create DVDs – but that’s not the main focus.
Uncompressed 8-bit I’d assume I’d need special hardware to edit smoothly? And motion jpg – does that edit nicely? I’m mainly adding titles and speeding up renders 200 to 300%.
Thanks!
