  • What’s the best video format to convert from a DVD?

Posted by Leonardo Weber on February 16, 2009 at 1:15 pm

I’m using a DVD camcorder so I know I have to convert the TS files from the DVD into some other format suitable for Final Cut.

    My questions are:

    – If I want to work with the best quality possible – from all the files formats and configurations available which is the best?

    – Second question – if I just want to edit something very fast and create a small video file – which format is the best in this case? I mean, a format that has good quality but at the same time is not that big and of course, works with Final Cut.

    Thanks.

    Hi Leonardo,
if you want to extract the 100% of what is in an MPGE-2, 8b Uncompress is the codec.
10b codecs are unnecessary because MPEG-2 ar 8b. Any other 8b codec will recompress more or less the picture from the DVD.
    Cheers,
    Rafael
