What’s the best P2 Workflow for Avid?
Hello,
after a handful of random P2 related posts and a headache filled day of running tests, I’m looking for opinions on the best “cover my ass” and also efficient workflow for a P2 job on Avid.
I’m an editor traveling with a production internationally. The P2 transfer from cards to hard drive will be performed by me as well as the import into a Media Composer 3.0 on a MacBook Pro laptop. They are shooting 720/23.98. Apparently Panasonic and Apple have a recommendation to mount your P2 cards, and then create disk images one at a time of each card. These become your MASTER P2 elements. Then you eject your P2 cards, mount your disk images and import into Avid. That is my current plan, copying the disk images to a mirrored GSafe Raid system so I immediately have a master and backup of all P2 information. After reading some posts, I’m wondering if I should be using a mirrored RAID after importing instead of or in addition to the P2 copies…..just meaning my AVID media files have a master and backup….. While attempting to import cards yesterday, two of the cards would not complete the disk image creation process. So I’m also trying to figure out if the disk image is even a necessary step. In addition, I experienced some weird errors when trying to import such as:
While playing a clip, it would appear to be fine but then about 3 minutes into a 5 minute clip, it would suddenly tell me MEDIA OFFLINE. Also, when trying to go back to the P2 card and/or the drive I copied P2 information to to remedy the situation and re-import a clip, the clip would have a different name. Is this normal?I’m leaving on Tuesday November 4th so any information, recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help.
Dan
