  • What’s the best Codec for 10-bit AfterEffects GFX?

    Hey guys

Sorry if this has been posted ad nauseum already. But, I am working on a project on the Kona 2 and my sequence is Kona 2 10 bit. (Not HD, though) – the sequence is 720×486 and most of our footage is captured from DVCAM.

We’re creating a lot of animations from AfterEffects and I’m wondering what codec most of you use to match your graphics with the 10 bit sequence? Do you use Blackmagic? Or the FCP 10 bit? Or Lossless/ Animation?

I obviously want the graphics to look as pristine and clear as possible, but don’t want to have to re-render in the sequence.

    Thanks!

If you do not want to rerender the graphics in the sequence then you can create the graphics in the codec that the sequence is edited in.

I use annimation all the time. this is also teh default codec for Livetype. It’s good because if you are working in an Offline online environment there is never a need to recreate the titles, they just have to be relinked and re rendered into the native Timeline codec.

People have been experiencing problesm with Photoshop graphics in ten bit so you might want to runa few tests.

render the same file out with three differen codecs,

    Say

    Annimation
    PNG
    Apple 10bit uc

and drop them all into a 10bit uc timeline and see what works for you.
