    Hi Everyone,

This is my current, rather aged, setup.

    Windows 7 64 bit
    Intel Quad Core 2.4
    4Gb DDR2 Ram
    256mb Geforce 7600GS

I mainly work in Cinema 4d, and the viewport is very slow to work in or watch in realtime. Particularly compared to my mac pro 12 core I use day in day out at work! I need to improve my home setup a little.

I just want to upgrade my system for now. Whats the best and most cost effective way to improve the viewport performance?

I’d spend a couple hundred bucks for a new video card. That one you’re using is ancient in PC years.

    Thanks Adam.

Could you recommend one that’s ideal suited to cinema 4d and my setup?

Also I read somewhere upgrading my ram to 2gb per core is a good idea, so 8gb. Do u agree with that?

As far as video cards I’d recommend any of the newer nVidia gaming cards. The expensive Quadro cards won’t perform any better in Cinema. The ATI cards are also very good but people generally report more problems with ATI’s OGL drivers. Make sure that your power supply can handle whichever card you decide on and that it has the right connectors.

RAM will help if you have big scenes that are exhausting the physical RAM you have now. If you aren’t running out of RAM now then it’ll make little or no difference.
