What to do with old equipment?
Posted by Jeffrey Buras on June 6, 2008 at 2:57 pmWe have a lot of equipment lying around that we simply don’t use. It’s all perfectly good equipment, we just don’t use it anymore. What is the best way to get rid of old equipment? I mostly want to dispose of it responsibly; hopefully someone could get some use out of it. It would be nice to be able to sell it, but we’re not looking to get into the business of equipment sales. Any recommendations?

June 6, 2008 at 5:31 pmYou could donate it to a local school. You could also call a used equipment dealer in your area and let them come and take EVERYTHING for a bulk price.

June 7, 2008 at 2:27 amI wouldn’t want to deal with shipping the stuff myself. So I would just list it dirt cheep or free on craigslist, with the stipulation that they must pick it up.

Don’t know if you have a FreeCycle list in your area — where do you work from? But that’s another great way to get rid of stuff.

June 9, 2008 at 3:58 pmYou could donate it to Colombia College. From the sound of the earlier post regarding insurance, it sure sounds like they could use it.

June 10, 2008 at 3:03 amI just took in a bunch of old but “useful to someone” equipment to an Ebay store here in town. They take quite a cut, but I didn’t mind. I don’t have time to deal with keeping track of my auctions and shipping and all that stuff, so it was perfect. I live in Omaha, so if we have a shop like this, I’m sure a bigger market would have one.
