What the hell happened to my 16:9?
Posted by Iain Mackinnon on May 12, 2009 at 6:05 pmwould someone please explain the various border gudelines in the canvas for me?
I can’t seem to get 16:9 right. Eg. if i stretch to full screen, when viewed in widescreen, is all squished. When i use the guidelines, i get big black lines, top and bottom even when viewed on a widescreen tv set up for 16:9!
Arrrghhh!!!!
help!
Using stone age FCP4HD on G5 powermac.I used to spend my time wondering, now it’s all used up rendering.

You need to start at the beginning. What’s your video material? What are your timeline settings?
You can’t just throw stuff into a timeline and start changing settings — the settings should be properly set before you edit material to the timeline.

May 12, 2009 at 7:00 pmHere in Vermont, close to the Canadian border, “border guidelines” means something totally different, I think. 🙂
I assume he means the title and action-safe guides, but hey, ya never know!

May 12, 2009 at 7:20 pmRight, sorry guys.
When you look at the canvas you have an interior box, an exterior box and then full screen.
I logged footage shot in 16:9 and captured using DV PAL anamorphic.
when i bring it into the timeline, it’s a 4:3 screen.
sorry for confusion. need to know anything else?I used to spend my time wondering, now it’s all used up rendering.

May 12, 2009 at 7:32 pmMake sure that your imported media and sequence settings are PAL DV anamorphic. There’s an “anamorphic” column in your browser window. Scroll over to it and select it–a check-mark will appear.

Simple, your timeline settings are not set properly. You need to open a new timeline, and check the anamorphic checkbox in Sequence>>Settings. Then begin editing.
If you’ve already edited a lot, change the setting as above, then set distort to “0” for all clips in the Motion tab.

June 4, 2009 at 5:50 pmHi.
My name is Kai Mariah. I’m 13 years old and I’m a filmmaker. Currently I’m working on an animated film. I’m doing the animation in DAZ Studio – the setting is 16:9.What should the settings be in Final Cut Pro so that the final rendered product is widescreen?
When I bring it in it looks right on the screen but when I render it and burn it to a DVD it still looks like a full screen version instead of widescreen.
Thanks for you help.
Kai
