Hi Joel, you’ve identified your capacity and price range, the other thing to identify is do you need RAID protection for drive redundancy. Simple RAID 0 would be less expensive, RAID 5 protection will be a little bit more.

for less than the price you indicated I recently purchased a 6 Terrabyte eSata raid from MaxxDigital(www.maxxdigital.com). Raid 5 capable, very high read/writes for uncompressed HD, very easy (10 minutes) to install.

$6,000 US can buy you a LOT of storage. The latest thing is fast SATA arrays with RAID 5. This means that you can completely lose one drive in your array, but you keep on working because another drive will step in and take its place. This offers protection and speed.

Personally I tested Sonnet, Dulce and MaxxDigital Arrays and own a MaxxDigital EVO HD 8TB unit that running in RAID 5 gives me 500MB/s and 6.5TB of available space. They have all sizes available.

Any of the three companies will be a good fit for you, but look for speed and protection in RAID 5.
