  • What should the kbps export setting be set to?

When it comes to kbps, what should the setting be set to when exporting if your audio was recorded at 24 bit/48 khz?

I tried looking it up but every tutorial talks about Mbps and not kbps. Does anyone know what the kbps settings should be?

The export bit rate doesn’t correlate with the original recorded format. Compressed audio usually goes from 16 to 320 kbps (at least with the AAC codec found in Premiere) and I unless otherwise specified I use the maximum because the audio bit rate still isn’t that much compared to what the video should be.

Oh okay thanks, this is what I thought, but I was just guessing. What about mbps? Some tutorials say to put it at 16, but should I? When I try to click on the properties of the original footage though, It does not list Mbps.

    [ryan elder] “What about mbps?”

Not usually used in specs with the common compressed audio formats so I dunno ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have no idea what these tutorials are trying to teach but 16 Mbps for audio would be quite a lot and 16 kbps would be kinda shitty. Maybe they meant bit depth?

Oh sorry I meant mbps now, not kbps.

As for ‘bit depth’, it’s not called that in premiere pro, it’s just called Target bitrate, or mbps.

I’ll be honest Ryan, it sounds like you are mixing up audio settings with video settings. There is a bit depth in video and audio, but they are two separate things. Bit depth in audio is number of bits in a sample – or something like that. Bit depth in video usually refers to color information. Both of which I don’t think you need to worry about when exporting from PPro.
Audio, as stated by Tero, usually has a bit rate of 16-320kbps, but can go higher. Video bit rate usually is specified by Mbps, and if you are using a variable bit rate for video, you can select your Target bit rate and Maximum.
    Hope that helps!

And as far as your original question… I usually export my audio at 48KHz High Quality AAC at 320Kbps for masters. For viewing files that I may email, I may take the audio bit rate down to 192Kbps and I compress the video down to around 1.5Mbps 720p.

Oh no, I didn’t mean to imply I was getting them mixed up. I just meant that now that we have established how high to set the kbps, how high should I set the mbps after?

[ryan elder] “how high should I set the mbps after?”

That kind of depends on your delivery specs. Where are you sending the video?

Oh okay thanks. Well I am uploading it to filmfreeway, to send to festivals. So if it’s the filmfreeway copy, then what is the best?
