What preset for DVCPRO50 ?
Posted by Niklas Wikman on August 21, 2008 at 9:29 amI shoot 576i in 16:9 over P2 and DVCPRO50. But there’s no such preset in FCP 5.1.4 – only DVCPRO or DV50.
What preset should I use (anamorphic should be checked if there’s 16:9)?
And what is superwhite?

August 21, 2008 at 11:44 amNot that I can see, but that’s mainly because I have not had any issue with this before.
Before moving to P2, we shot Betacam SP and captured using a DSR-45P DV/DVCAM deck. Thus the codec was Apple DV, and it looked really really good. And sure, it was uncompressed analogue source.
Surely the DV codec does compress quite much. Then going to DVCPRO50 (equal to Digibeta) on SD we believe the upcoming project would at least not look worse…

Both codecs are 422, but Digibeta is uncompress and DV50 is compressed. Higher quality, bigger files.[Niklas Wikman] “Betacam SP and captured using a DSR-45P DV/DVCAM deck. Thus the codec was Apple DV, and it looked really really good.”
If you can capture Betacam to DV 50 will look much better, nd to 8b Unc or Proress, even better.

August 21, 2008 at 1:49 pmDV50 is DVCPRO50. Use the DV50 anamorphic version if you shot 16×9. Super white is something you should stay away from, unless you have a specific reason not to. DVCPRO 50 16×9 looks great in FCP – have cut over 50 1/2 hour broadcast shows with it and everyone loves it – bumps up real nice to HD as well.

August 21, 2008 at 6:04 pmThanks for your reply. I’ll go for DV50, then.
(strange enough that QT does have a number of settings much more explained – there are both DVCPRO and DVCPRO50, HD, DV25, etc etc…)

August 22, 2008 at 8:52 amI have some long stationary takes of cityscapes that I would like to edit into a time lapse effect without doing the tedious work. Is there a plugin that can help with that? The source material is HDV 1080/50i from mini dv tapes and I am using FCP 5.14
