What output settings to preserve HDR information?
My understanding is using 32bpc maintains HDR information while working within AE, but if I need to export for another program (or to keep an archive at that stage) what output settings should I use.
Until now I thought Animation 100% was the way to go but I’ve recently heard Animation brings everything down to an 8-bit space. Is this true? If so, would ProRessHQ be the best (I do not want to go uncompressed).

tiff, openexr,radiance,photoshop sequence psd, all support 32bpc/float.
You can buy video codecs with 32bpc too.
I think openexr has the smallest size and psd has the largest.Openexr and tiff are the most compatible with software.
The only issue I had was openexr shifting subtle pixel values which is kind of hilarious because ILM created it. I went from 0,16,49 to 0,15,50 to 1,16,50 in only 3 generations. ack!
I personally only use tiff with lzw compression off.
Don’t forget that dynamic link works in 32bpc. -
Chris, would you mind filing a bug report about those shifting values with OpenEXR? That sounds like something that we need to fix.
