  • What memory setting with 9 gigs of RAM on 8 core??

I’ve searched the archives but I didn’t find the answer to the question as to what percentage I should set in the preferences for RAM usage.
    Thanks in advance

I’ve seen that post. But it doesn’t discuss the RAM memory you have to allocate to AE. As far as I understand

as far as the ram setting, i think i would leave it at the default 3gb. i haven’t heard of any benefit to modifying this when you have so enough ram.

you can look at the ram cache settings if when you enable multiprocessing it doesn’t say …7 additional processors will be used… by lowering the ram cache setting to allow more cores to be used in rendering. with 8 cores and 9gb you’ll be looking at around 1gb for the ram cache to use all the cores.

Itamar, so what were your final settings in your memory and cache prefs?

    1. Maximum memory usage —?
    2. Maximum memory cache —?

I’m running an 8 core mac pro with 9 gigs of ram but I too have been getting strange out of memory errors.

Just wanted to see what you ended up going with.

    Thanks!

Well, last week I upgraded to Nucleo Pro 2 and after some fiddling around I set both the maximum memory usage and the maximum RAM cache to 90% which meant 2,7 gig.
The maximum disk cache size is 2 gig.
Tell you the truth: I just don’t know what the ideal setting is. I’ve read so many confusing stories that I just try. Before I upgraded Nucleo Pro I had my memory usage smaller, but then AE didn’t complete the whole work area of my RAM preview.
I have never had out of memory errors though.
