If I’m reading this correctly, you may need to try holding down Alt while pressing [
I think that will clear up a lot of the confusion you are having. It’s difficult because even though many of the people on this forum use keystrokes constantly, you are the only editor that I know of using Zero Mouse! <- Which I think is pretty awesome! Keep exploring this and let me know if you have any other questions. For now, try some of these if you aren’t already using them.

JKL = playback (J is reverse, K is pause, L is forward) Press L again to play faster up to 4 times (same for J in reverse)
Spacebar and Enter both also Play/Pause but the spacebar returns to where it started and enter will stop wherever you press it a second time.

    S = split at cursor
[ = select beginning of clip
] = select end of clip

Hold down Alt while pressing left and right arrows will go 1 frame at a time

Adjust zoom on timeline using up and down arrows

Hold down Alt and press [ to edit the beginning of your clip to the cursor
Hold down Alt and press ] to edit the end of your clip to the cursor

Press [ to select the beginning of the clip, then use arrows to adjust the edit
Press ] to select the end of the clip, then use arrows to adjust the edit

Press ] twice to go to the start of the next clip (you can move through all the clips on your timeline this way)
and [ twice to go back to a previous clip

So to use these keystrokes to delete a clip you could use:
    L to play
    K to pause
    S to split at start
    L to play
    K to pause
S to split at end then
[ twice to go back to your new “Split clip” that you created and press Delete.

    I hope this helps. Thanks!
