  • What is the correct workflow for FCS?

hi ther, im in the middle of a project, have upgraded to FCS2 and have tired to learn on the fly as best i can about it.

Have applied smooth cam, and i have learned enough basics to use color.

My qustion is about rendering really…

ive done my edit in final cut, can i now go straight to color, render the color, then do a render in final cut, then hop over to soundtrack.

    or ….

render final cut, do color, render color, do final cut render, then do soundtrack.

Answer A or B, or is it mystery answer C?

many thanks! james – southampton – uk 🙂

There should be no more rendering after Color. As long as you render it in the correct format, the only renders left after sending back to FCP should be titles because you don’t want to send titles into Color.

[JamesR] “ive recompressed everything to Prores 422 (MBP duo 2 with external hd couldnt playback HQ)… but i see.”

then you must open that up in a ProRes timeline in FCP or you will have to re-render the entire thing. Kind of defeats the point of rendering in Color.

Ive been soaking up a mixture of posts from here and tutorials from apple.

    Is what id done correct…

Start with an EasySetUp for HDV.

    Capture my footage.

Use Media Manager Recompress into ProRes to a separate location.

Then open up the new project, having double checked that the compressor settings for the sequence are ProRes.

Have also changed the render control options to set to ProRes also.

Thanks for the reply by the way, just that you’d got me worried that i’d missed something.

    Thanks again,
