  • What is the best way to reconnect media?

Posted by Julie Hill on October 22, 2007 at 6:23 pm

Our editors work offsite, and we keep a duplicated archive of the footage in our studio. When the project is edited, the editor emails us a fcp project file and we reconnect in order to preview. Sometimes this works, sometimes it does not. We have major problems (timeline shows different clips than what is there on the editors timeline) when footage has been slow mo’d, or when editing HDV.

Is there a better, more effective way of doing this? I’ve heard that exporting an xml can also be buggy and leaves out a lot of information. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    🙂

i’ve had problems reconecting clips that are slo-mo, too.
they werent fom hige files, so at least the clips were close to what htey were supposed to be.

the best way to work is for both systems to be set up exactly the same,
with the media in exactly the same file path, and for the DRIVES to be named the same
this way, there should be NO RECONECTING needed. the projects should just open and find the media.

    hope that helps,
    nick

I have found that reconnecting is usually not a problem (just my good luck i guess) and sometimes it doesn’t require it as it just reconnects everything as is even from a different drive volume name.
