    Hey Joseph!
Basically, in my opinion, it all depends on two things – how much you want to spend and the level of quality (not to mention HI DEF vs. Standard Def). If it was me, I would shoot for the Canon GL2. You can pick up a used one on eBay for a $900.00 to $1200.000. According to their website, Canon is still selling this camera brand new for $2799.99. The GL2 provides GREAT picture quality and is easy to use. Do a Google search on it and look at the specs to see for yourself. This is a 3 chip camera but it’s not HI DEF and it doesn’t have XLR inputs for professional sound – but overall it’s an excellent camera. So, if you want your priceless video memories to look great – go for the GL2 – please don’t just settle for a Wal-Mart/Best Buy special – go the extra mile on this one – 20 years from now you’ll be glad you did!
Have a great vacation season with your family!

    Brad
