  • What is the basic function of RAID?

    Hey everyone,

I am building a brand new editing PC. AMD Duel Core, 4GB of RAM, Quadro FX1400 video card etc . . . I plan on using an 80 gig segate barracuda as my primary drive, and using 3 seagate 300 GB external drives for the actual editing (to hold my rendered and unrendered video, preview files, conformed audio etc . . .) What bearing does RAID have on my system? The concept of what RAID is is beyond me. Probably because I am not a true computer guy. Do I need a RAID, RAIDs or RAID? haha. Thanks.

Yeah, I already looked at Google. According to multiple sources, RAID is not needed for DV editing. It is more nesecary for HD or HDV editing. RAID 0 sounds way too risky for my blood.

Correct. Have a look at https://www.raid.com/04_00.html for further explanations.

I will be geting a RAID0 in my next system because of my HDV editing. With DV it never seemed important.
