what is that?
Posted by Thanos Papadopoulos on July 4, 2018 at 8:46 pmI attach few photos, where you can see that in my effects tab I can select my library’s name. When I select my library’s name all the effects disappear. That mean that I can add effects?
Fix it in Pre.

July 5, 2018 at 6:21 pmHi Thanos,
I believe the article linked below can provide an answer. Although it doesn’t mention audio effects specifically, I believe they are handled the same way. I’m curious if this is the case, can anyone else provide clarity?
“By default, when you create or customize any Final Cut Pro effects, transitions, titles, or generators in Motion, that content is stored in the Motion Templates folder located in your Movies folder. You can also store Motion content inside a library—for example, to move a project or library to another Mac, or to back up and archive your work. You may also want to store Motion content in the library if you’re working on a project with others and using shared storage.”

July 6, 2018 at 4:00 pmIt’s a great idea in theory, but you do not want to store any motion content in the library. Apple just hasn’t thought this one through yet, although the feature is nearly 2 years old.
You’ll end up with “copies” all over your system. As you open projects that have effects embedded, copy and paste things, and just generally work like normal, somehow they always seem to migrate BACK to your Motion templates folder. Where if you already have the effect, it creates a copy. And then it’ll happen again and again until you realize your motion templates folder is full of copies. And the problem then, is that any projects linked to the copy version(s) can only use those versions. So you have to keep them or risk having offline effects.
I was quite excited by the idea when it first came out and have been toying with it ever since as others have, but it just doesn’t pan out in daily practice.
Here’s the ONE way I do occasionally use it. At the end of a job, I usually consolidate a new library from the project(s) so that they contain only the used media. The original library will get trashed. But after I create the new library, and before I trash the old one, I consolidate the motion templates media into the old library. Then I open the old library package at the finder level to find the motion templates neatly organized into a folder structure like they are in the finder. I then simply copy that and archive it with the new library, Motion and Affinity stuff, scripts, etc. that I want to keep. Someday down the road when I revisit the project and I can’t figure out what plugins I used or what file path they resided in, this will be invaluable. Especially since FCPX still has no sort of relink for plugins or even a list of the missing plugins.
