“yikesmikes” is to be executed immediately after this post.

    Real names only.

    Can water-boarding be far behind?

I am weak, so I will tell them anything they want.

PS. There will be a bonfire for all books authored by “Mark Twain”, “George Eliot”, “Isak Dinesen”. ” J.K. Rowling”, ” Ellery Queen”, etc. etc. etc… somehow they seem less authentic.

I don’t like my real name. It sucks.

God, are you all out of prolixin again, yikesmikes?

    ;o)

In case you haven’t noticed, Mike, all of the aliases of those now using their real names but who were once aliased users, are showing up in parenthesis behind their real name.

We have actually got quite a few remarks from users who like seeing who is who.

This is a community. In the beginning, it was ALMOST ALL real names and the few that weren’t — David Bogie as “bogiesan” comes to mind — were easily known as to who they were. It was from this root that The COW sprung and it is why so many people loved it.

Accountability was what made the COW so “High Signal, Low Noise” and over the years, more and more aliases have shown up and so has an increase in the noise level. By cutting down on the people that come in and have as their agenda to add little to the boards but their unaccountable opinions, we will cut down on the noise.

We have no doubt that some people will not like the new policy. Oh well, we have never tried to be popular and instead, we do and will continue to do what we feel is right for this community.

    Sorry to bum your day.

    OK, OK, I give.

At least I’ll get to find out who that “Cow Dog” is.

Does he get to keep wearing his ears?

He’s a dog, he has no last name.

Oh, but he has four legs.

    Hey –
I’m still wearing my ears over in the Broadcast Design forum (probably the least visited forum on the Cow – some days I feel like the Maytag repairman – well, not dead – but close to room temperature), but is it ok if I change my name to something more filmic….

….maybe Hondo Bourke, or Toe Cutter Bourke, or, dare I say it, Mezz Bourke? Maybe “the artist formerly known as Joseph W. Bourke”? This could start a trend, you know…or open me up to a series of highly publicized lawsuits.

😉 just kidding buddy. We’re all adults here, even though we may not act like it sometimes 🙂

See what I mean. There are mean people out there.

Actually, Clasby is only my adopted name, yes I’m adopted… I don’t know my “real name”? Did I just 86 myself from the cow, or do you take in strays? OK, I guess your taking in the Artist-formerly-known-as-Cow-Dog, answers that question. (As full disclosure I too have, taken in many more strays than purebreds, they’re cheaper, and all that paperwork and the fancy names is daunting, so that wasn’t a slam on strays)(I do have an old Maytag in the basement that needs looking at)(What’s the W stand for?).

All kidding aside… How is a newbie with a name like Cher or Prince or Madonna, or any other person with only one name supposed to post here? Aren’t you being discriminatory towards them?

I only ask because I’m thinking of legally changing my name to yikesmikes.

We would give Prince a first name of “The Artist Formerly and Now Once Again Known As.” While this may be daunting for him, it would span a wide area of experience and would open up new vistas and experiential panoramas for both him and our members.

Cher, on the other hand, would find herself with two accounts. One, would be “Sonny’s Cher” — the other? It would herald back to her years as Gregg Allman’s wife and she would be “Cher Allman” (well, except for the parts that are all botox and stuff.) In either case, we wouldn’t let her sing — especially “Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves” — a song that would herald her irrevocable dismissal from the site.

Madonna, lastly, would be barred from the site on general principle, for using drum machines in her catalog. As a drummer myself, I have always joked that “Otto Matic” on the drums does not count as real music. So, a little-used clause that bans drum machines from the COW would be used.

Now Tim Wilson will have a different opinion as I think he wears a Madonna costume on Halloween — at least that’s a rumor I am just starting…

Hey, Clasby’s fine by me. I thought it would be “Dorkman” or something.

One might choose to punt Prince or Madonna for a variety of reasons, but those are the real first names of Mr. P. Rogers Nelson, and Ms. M.L.V. Ciccone. (Her baptism name is Veronica.)

Cher, as everyone knows, was born Cherilyn Sarkisian LaPierre.

My costumes have indeed included Madonna..1984..although most people thought I was Boy George…born George Alan O’Dowd -same middle name as mine!!

But my favorite costume as a woman was the year before:

As a guitarist, a drum machine just doesn’t do it for me. A live drummer adds some of his own personality to the music. It’s the combined personalities of the members that gives a band it’s soul. So, let’s not just ban drum machines from the COW, but from life, in general.
