I have some inputs where I dont have much or any control over the audio level input. Some of these inputs (like SDI) come in very low. I capture both channels 1 and 2 as discreet mono audio tracks. As near as I can tell the audio and video are being captured into a single file.

I frequently take clips that I have captured, run them through PEAK-DV, and “Normalize” them to improve levels. I would like to switch over to Sountrack Pro for this. I like to fix the clips before I edit, fixing them from the bin as pre-production.

When I select these files in FCP5 and “Open in Editor” to Soundtrack Pro I only get Ch1 audio. Channel 2 is nowhere to be found. This happens whether I open the audio file from the bin (as I usually do) or from the timeline. When I start by opening Soundtrack pro and open a file to edit it I get the same problem. Channel 1 only.

When I open the files with PEAK-DV I get a box that asks me to select which audio channel I want to work with, so it can only open one at a time, but at least I can choose the channel I want. If I want both then I have to do it twice.

Files captured with FCP4.5 open as two audio channels in both Soundtrack Pro and PEAK-DV. So I’m pretty sure its something FCP5 is doing.

I would like to see two parallel audio tracks when I open a FCP5 clip in STP. Barring that, at least I need a way to get to channel 2 in Soundtrack Pro. The STP forum is pretty slow.

    Thanks.
