April 10, 2012 at 6:02 pmSo what’s the deal with Lightworks? In anticipation of buying a new MBP that MacRumors says will be out soon, I’ve been comparing PC laptops on Tiger Direct and can cut my expenditures in half. I need a new laptop, that’s why I’m considering dumping all things Apple if PC is half the price.

So they can Johnny Cash it like they did all their other pro app purchases?

April 10, 2012 at 6:26 pmAnd that would be fun and would be my preference. But somehow I don’t think that is what is going to happen. What I suspect will be happening is an attempt at rebranding high end post production.

CombustionSeems to be a perfect fit for Apple 😉
And the announcement is done with Deep Purple’s “Smoke on the Water” blaring through the speakers. There’s even one change in the lyrics “We all came out to Montreux” (Montreux replaced with Cupertino).

April 10, 2012 at 6:50 pmPC laptops aren’t any cheaper than Apples. Just today at Sam’s I saw a MacBook air look-alike. Sam basic specs (no tb) for $999. Same price. It was an i5.
Now if you want to build your own PC tower that’s different.

April 10, 2012 at 7:20 pmWell you can get a 17″ PC laptop with i7, 8GB ram, Blu-ray burner etc etc for under $1500 – that’s quite a bit cheaper than a 17″ MacBook Pro. Not saying it’s nicer, just a lot of options out there. Of course the PC won’t FCPX so that totally sucks.

April 10, 2012 at 7:26 pmI’d also add that this is the forum that lends itself LEAST to reading old posts to get the gist. Too many changes across the entire ecosystem, too many new insights (pos and neg) as people try to use it, etc.
There are also new people coming in all the time as they come to their own forks in the road. This isn’t just one of the most frequently read forums at the COW — it’s the one with the most *new* visitors on a month-to-month basis. Nothing stays the same.
While every forum at the COW is designed to work in real time, we can argue about the “real” but not the “timely.”
So, you kids new to the conversation, let ‘er rip. Geezers who’d rather not answer the same questions again, please don’t. Plenty of room for everyone here.
