    I often see other people refer to other programs as using “splines” for their graph editors and things of that nature. What exactly is a spline and how is it different from what AE uses?

    AE uses splines (or spline curves) all the way in it’s mask tools, animation paths and the graph editor. Technically a spline is just a representation of a mathematical formula that calculates interpolation between two points. The simplest spline is a straight line, AE uses those and B

    Ah, I understand. Thanks very much. Although I don’t see what’s wrong with the way you adjust the curves in AE. Maybe it’s just because I’ve never got to experience any other way.

    working with splines is more like drawing in Illustrator, and it’s easier to visualize and control the values for animation. Much better.
