I made an animation with a white solid as the background layer. When i bring it into avid and play it in the sequence it is all messed up on my tv monitor cause the white levels are too high. I fix it in avid with the color effect, but what is a simple way to do it in AE?

i imagine an adjustment layer with a filter but what filter?

When you create the white solid, you can set its colour to RGB 235, not RGB 255. If the solid exists, you can change its colour properties with shift-ctrl-Y (shift-cmd-Y).

… but if you want to change the levels for the whole frame, you apply effect>adjust>levels to an adjustment layer (if you have multiple layers, otherwise just apply it to the footage layer), setting the outs to 16 and 235 for broadcast.
