Fun Stuff! Reminds a bit of the comic book scene also. Where abouts are you in LA? Are you familar with McCabes Guitar Shop in Santa Monica? I teach there one day a week, been there forever.

Where’d you shoot the fishy stuff. Pretty cool.

    [Loren Risker] “Editor’s reel:”
I like that a lot, especially the saturated colors at the amusement park.

The left-right panning on the bike parts at :25 and about 1:00 was very smooth. If you don’t mind saying, was that done with camera and a slider or with stills and keyframing? Either way, the effect was very nice.

    Thanks,
    Dave

Thanks for the comments, Dave. Those moves were done on a slider.

    Cheers,

Maybe this is an odd choice, but I mention it as it was an FCPX/Aperture piece:
    https://vimeo.com/28978496

All the images were logged and tagged in Aperture, which is obviously available in the FCPX media browser. Surprisingly too, any image adjustments in Aperture appear in FCPX. Thus, if you had an image in the FCPX timeline you found you didn’t like the way it looked, you could pop over to Aperture, adjust it, and then come back to FCPX and it would instantly update in the timeline.

I don’t recall exactly how it worked now, but basically all your metadata from Aperture is available in FCPX so there is no question of duplication of effort.

So – Aperture and FCPX are like crossed fingers – which is nice.

    Brad,

I had previously heard of the SolarAir project, it’s a good one. A perfect use of the technology.

Very impressive use of photos. After awhile I forgot I was watching a collection of photos tell a story vs. straight video. The edits and keyframing felt more like video cuts than what I typically think of for photos which would be the Ken Burns effect.

I also really liked the effect near the end where the people are holding the sun in their fingers. Simple, but clever and edited nicely.

I’ve not had a need for Aperture and don’t own it, but maybe I’ll take a look this summer. I appreciate your explanation of the integration.

    Thanks,
    Dave

Thanks very much for the kind comments, Dave.

On reflection, I don’t think this project would have been possible with FCP7. Beyond the integration with Aperture, the Ken Burns effect would have driven me insane. In FCPX it’s fast and fun.
