What happens to FCP 7 when FCP X trial is installed on the same partition? I know that originally FCP X displaced FCS 3. (out of the application folder?) I was running the demo on another partition, the trial ran out yesterday, but I need to fire it up one more time to make ProRes file for a client. (oops – poor planning!)

    Thanks

Nothing happens, it functions as before. You can’t run both at the same time though.

I think they go in to a folder called “Final cut Studio Apps” or something like that.

A folder called, “Final Cut Studio” is created in the applications folder. You can open them from there.

However (and I realize its too late for you), this is NOT a best practices method for installing X on the same partition as 7. There is a knowledge base article on the apple website that details how best to do the installation if you want to run them both on the same partition.

Installing X without following the “best practices” instructions can be fine, but you can also screw up linkage between the studio apps (ie: Send to Compressor, Send to Motion)

So far no issue on my end with both on the same machine. The key, according to Apple, is to first open Motion 4 after the move. That’s before you do anything else. My guess is that this has something to do with correcting the links. If it opens fine, then test all the other FCS apps from the new folder. If these are all OK, then you should be fine.
