I have a client who wants to edit some footage I shot recently in iMovie. I had to do a little cleanup and sound-syncing to get it to a “raw” state for him to use– the footage is coming from .avi and .mts files, neither of which I believe iMovie can edit (He is using 8.05). I have heard it will however work with mp4 files, but I’ve had a hard time pinning down whether it is particular about the specs of those files (ie CAVLC vs CABAC, baseline vs main profiles, bitrate etc). I would like to just use a Vegas preset if possible (I’ve tested the Internet 16:9 30p and it looks nice) but I don’t know if he’ll be able to use it. Thoughts or other suggestions?

I have used the Quick Time 7 format successfully although not in iMovie. I have no need for iMovie, but the file produced by Vegas does run on a Mac.
