    Hi
I have finished a video in After Effects and It is intended to go on a website. The person running the site says it would be good as a GIF as it would be compatible with all the computers accessing it. There is no option for a GIF here. What format would be best for the site, it is going to be the main banner on it. I would of though Flash but the guy says that won’t be as compatible with all the computers accessing the site.

    Thanks

I believe that if you want a GIF, you need to render a QT movie in AE, then send it to Imageready or something to make the GIF. If you search the COW for “GIF” you should get some info. Try the archives.

I’d use Flash, since it has been a part of the browser install for a long time. Just my opinion. hey, go to Yahoo, Google or CNN, and right-click on their banners to see if they use flash.

You’ll find animated gif under the format options in the output module. I’m not sure it’s what you want. gifs have very limited colors and get huge very quick. Most folks have QT, which will give you best quality. there’s also windows media. If you go with a gif the design must be very simple, the colors simple, and the expectations of how it will look must be lowered. gifs also do not support audio.

Only if the user has Quicktime installed. I wouldn’t count on it.

You could go to the COWmunications forum and ask what the COW uses.

Most of the banners on the Cow are flash. Gif would also work as a banner.

[Steve Roberts] “You could go to the COWmunications forum and ask what the COW uses.”

The format we use is whatever format the client is willing to write a check for.

Well, except for those insane ones that spill out of their place and track all across the page and overlay the page and make you have to watch them. We draw the line at those.

Many of the banners here are GIF and most of the others are Flash.

    Best,
