April 25, 2006 at 8:28 pmWhen I say colorspace, I am referring to the video’s color sampling..ie. 4:1:1,4:2:0(hdv),4:2:2 and 4:4:4. You get better color rendition and clarity with each level although 4:1:1 and 4:2:0 are very similar. For some more detail on this, here are a few good reads:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4:2:0
https://www.larryjordan.biz/articles/lj_sampling.html
https://www.adamwilt.com/DV-FAQ-tech.html#color_sampling
https://www.adamwilt.com/pix-sampling.htmlSo, essentially, you are generally better off working in a more accurate colorspace when you are manipulating the color – if you have the choice. Sometimes, it just isn’t worth it as you are trying to clean up a mud puddle by stirring it. With HDV however, it would make a difference by bumping the source to a 4:2:2 codec and never going back IF you are doing some serious manipulation.

5.1 is shipping for about two weeks or so now.

Thats what I’ve been doing all along and everything has turned out nice as a result 🙂
Thanks for the clarification.
