Activity Forums Apple Final Cut Pro Legacy What do I get?

I’ve been on this forum for years, although not much recently. It’s a great resource though.

I’ve been using FCP since 1999 and in all that time I’ve used only firewire drives. I’m getting a hell of a collection. I’m more of a “Producer/Editor” as opposed to an “Engineer/Editor” , so sometimes the technology gets a bit much for me. I want to connect my 2 edit suites with one server/set of drives/raid etc. What is the best way to go? LaCie sells a 4tb network drive, but can you edit from 2 rooms on that? Or is it even supposed to be used to edit from. Apple’s xserve is maybe another option. I don’t know. I’m sorry to sound like a blithering idiot, but I just do know what to buy to accomplish my goal.

    Thanks in advance

Q gets asked a lot. What you want is Xsan, MetaSAN. Terrablock or the like. Problem is that most solutions are not cheap. How much space do you need? More than 4 TB? What is your budget? $5,000? $10,000? $20,000?

Thanks Kevin for the quick response. I’d say I’d like to spend less than $10,000. Is that even realistic? I’ll check those suggestions out.

    Thanks again!

Not really for a reliable shared storage solution for two or more workstations.

Call Don McDonnel at Ciprico and let him walk you through some options. Great guy and excellent systems for shared storage. Ciprico.com
