Last year we got word that Vegas was going to beta a 64 bit program, maybe becoming a 10 bit system. I hoped for a faster preview in HD. In other words, I was looking for Vegas to move up to a higher system for Indie movie production, more like Premiere and After Effects or Final Cut. This doesn’t seem to be happening. Apparently nothing announced this year at NAB but the inevitable encoding of Blu-Ray in DVDA. Sony announces new cameras and Final Cut announces new ways of integrating their footage.

I know Sony Creative Software has created lesser versions of Vegas and Sound Forge and lots of loops but is that as far as the company is going? I’m just curious (and a little disappointed).

Vegas Pro 8 can already import and export 10-bit video. It can also render in 32bit space. And the 64-bit version was demoed at NAB and announced to be released later this year.
