  • What database type does CatDV use?

    Hi all,
Just wondering, what is under the hood of CatDV? We have a library specialist looking at our setup/workflow and she’s asking. Would like to know that if CatDV ceased to be we’d still be able to extract our metadata to port it into something else if need be.
    Thanks,

We don’t plan on going away 🙂

But rest assured, there are plenty of ways to get the data out of CatDV and into other systems if you need to.

The underlying database (assuming you’re using the server version) is normally MySQL, but it also works with other databases such as Oracle, MS SQL Server, and PostgreSQL, so you’re tied in to one particuar database. We don’t make use of specific database features and it’s easy to use standard tools SQL tools to generate reports or extract data if necessary.

You can also export the data in lots of ways for import into import into other systems, including XML and tab-separated text etc.

Not only can you “pack up and leave” I have done quite a few jobs where we deliver metadata from CatDV to other systems and also receive data back so that the systems stay in sync.

CatDV can receive new clips via XML or update clip data from any system that can deliver info through a command line command.

Additionally North Shore Automation has written a tool that will allow you to update records via XML as well so communication can be 2 way via XML.

NSA currently has XML translations for these systems:

    DAM –

    MarkLogic

    OpenText

    OVP or video channels –

    Kaltura

    MetaCafe

    Daily Motion

    YouTube

    With more to come.

Rolf has provided us with some really great tools for I/O.
