What can I do with CDV5 codec footage?
I have a client that had a few DVDs with CDV5 footage.
Quicktime won’t play them obviously. I’m thinking they are a Canopus format from a few years back.
I’ve had a look on the Canopus forums, and website, and can’t seem to find a solution, or even a reference to the codec.
Has anyone had this issue before, and had success?
I can’t return to the footage creator, they are in China, and the deadline is soon (go figure). Oh, and I’m NOT in china. =)Any help will be appreciated.

I’ve been having a look to Google about the CDV5 and the information is quite confusing.
As you said there is some Canopus CDV5 codec (https://abcavi.kibi.ru/fourcc.php?fcc=CDV5&title=CDV5+-+Canopus+SD50%2FDVHD) that I guess you can only instal in PC.
There is also some info about a kind of “5 inches CD” format.
Chines where using long ago a MPG-2 based format call CDV (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD_Video) just to don’t pay the MPG-2 license.
A bit mess, but you can try this: Copy a file in your Finder and change the extension by .mpg. There is a chance that QT can read it.
