  • What BMD card for 2k playback?

Hi all, this is my first post here 🙂

We currently have 3 DEcklink SP cards for sound editorial (running Nuendo), and are about to purchase a 2k video projector for our main mix room (Sanyo HD2000, due to arrive in september).

I’m a bit confused about 2k, as it seems to supercede normal HD specs (1080) by the 2048*1080 resolution.

First question: what Blackmagic card would allow me to have real 2k playback. Bear in mind that the HD2000 has dual SDI inputs for 4-4-4 HD, but I don’t know if 2k can be passed through that connection.

Second question: what would be the best way to transfer the 2k movie reels to our Virtual VTR Quad G5? Can it be transported on a HDCam SR tape (in that case we would need to rent a VTR to transfer the movie), or can it only exist as a file until transferred back to film?

Thanks a lot for any help on this subject,

    Cheers all,

    Steven

    Hi,

For 2K playback, you’ll need the Multibridge Extreme. 2K only outputs in real time via the DVI-D connection to a 30″ Cinema Display. Dual Link SDI will not work.

You can either transport them as a Quicktime 2K movie or as a series of DPX files. The HDCAM-SR will not do 2K.
