Activity Forums VEGAS Pro What audio format for Blu-ray

[Rick Hughes] “This is Blu-ray not DVD.”

There is no difference. Both Blu-ray and DVD use either AC3 or PCM audio.

[Rick Hughes] “That is why I understood .w64 would produce Blu-ray compliant uncompressed PCM.”

Apparently it does. DVD Architect takes the PCM audio from the w64 wrapper and writes it directly to the disc. I didn’t realize it would do this but I just tried it and it worked.

[Rick Hughes] “Is there a way to create Blu-ray disc image (avoid wasting blanks)”

Yes, DVD Architect comes with an image writer as one of the options.

[Rick Hughes] “Can then try alternative codec and see if they are re-encoded or not.”

As Jorma pointed out… no need to write anything. Just go to the Optimize Disc… menu option and it will show you exactly what will and will not be recompressed.

    Rick,
this “confusion” comes from the fact that the Studio versions don’t have the “professional” ac-3 pro encoder that the Pro versions have.
That’s why DVD A Studio has limited audio options for BD.

Thanks … ver 5 has not been upgraded for some time

Maybe I’ll look at ‘pro’ ver when they offer next upgrade, or would there be no point as Movie Studio only has the non “professional”! ac3 encoder.

The Movie Studio and DVD Architect Studio versions only have the basic AC3 encoder. You need to get Vegas Pro or DVD Architect Pro version to get the Pro AC3 encoder (if that was your question).

    John,
I seem to remember that Vegas Pro can only create an ac3 Pro file when DVD A Pro is on your machine.
I’ve always had both installed and no problems with ac3 Pro files.
Movie Studio Platinum does not show the ac3 Pro option even if you have DVD A Pro.

That knocks that idea on the head then.
Maybe AC3 professional will make an appearance ion Movie Studio in future version – can’t justify cost of Vegas Pro.

That is correct. The Dolby Digital AC3 Pro encoder is shipped as part of DVD Architect Pro and does not come with Vegas Pro at all. I’ve always had both installed but now that you mention it, I do remember that computers where I only installed Vegas Pro installed did not have the AC3 Pro encoder.
