What are they using at NAB
Posted by Richard Chin on January 25, 2006 at 11:06 amI go to NAB and everyone’s using these large LCD or Plasma displays for their HD products (cameras and editing systems included). Are these productions class monitors or simply higher end consumer displays that can handle HD?.
I keep forgetting to ask at NAB does anyone know?Richard

January 25, 2006 at 11:53 amNAB is still a few months away so we’ll have to wait and see what they are going to use.
What displays they use wholly depend on the company and what kind of partnerships that company has formed with others. For instance, hard drive manufacturers work with NLE manufacturers to ensure that their products are used to run the media. Same with Plasma displays. various manufacturers will work to promote their products by installing their displays into a lot of booths.
You can be that for the most part, these are professional / industrial displays, not consumer grade. Those were on display at the CES convention.

January 27, 2006 at 1:29 amI see your point Walter.
I could only imagine the price on one of those professional grade displays. What are your thoughts on this model that was suggested in an earlier post https://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?whse=&topnav=&prodid=11042448&ec=BC-EC877-CatHome&pos=13
Thanks for the reply

Actually, the pricing is MUCH better these days. I’m getting my 50″ Panasonic Professional display for just over $3,000 with dual Component inputs and I can add multiple inputs to it in the future.
As for the other display, my first plasma came from Costco and it worked ok, too much noise in the image though. Now it’s in the entertainment room playing XBox and movies. Works well out there, but not in a professional editing suite.
