What HD formats are the networks (both Cable/Sat & broadcast) accepting for a HD format? I hear some are accepting XDcam & some are accepting HDV. Also are they accepting shows cut with the new Apple pro-res?

Who’s accepting HDV? I’d be shocked if that was true…you can’t master to that format. Can’t lay back to it and have program start at 1:00;00;00. XDCAM? Haven’t heard that either. And the ProRes 422 codec is just that, a CODEC…not a tape format.

What networks are you talking about here? In my experience the networks that I work with only accept HDCAM, D5 and HDCAM SR. One was considering accepting DVCPRO HD, but have since excluded it.

Wasn’t it recently announced here that FOX had purchased a ton of DVCPRO HD cameras? I think it was a bunch of HVX200’s? That must mean that at least they are utilizing DVCPRO HD?

That wouldn’t surprise me, but it has nothing to do with delivery formats. If you need to know what the deliverable is you need to ask your contact at a specific outlet. Or poke around their websites. BBC and PBS put out loads of info, I imagine that’s less common in the commercial world.

Perhaps Kenyon was asking about acquisition formats, not delivery?

I know the OutDoor Channel accepts HDCAM (preferred) and will also take DVCPRO-HD.

It would be neat if cable companies and local stations would give specs for mpeg2 transport streams so we could deliver them electronically like DGS does.

The BBC are currently using HDCAM only as a delivery format.

Acquisition is more relaxed, the BBC tend to take programes on a case by case basis. Good document here:
