What are the 2 SDI inputs for?
Posted by Devin Crane on July 7, 2007 at 5:54 pmI saw on the IO HD that there are 2 SDI inputs on it along with TC input and output. Will it be able to ingest 2 channels at once as a recorder?

July 8, 2007 at 2:27 pminput channel 1, and input channel 2. On Kona 2 and Kona 3 cards, these are for either dual link 4:4:4 input (which use 2 BNC), or channel 1 and channel 2 (2 different inputs) that are selected in the Kona control panel.
The Kona LHe does not have this.

July 8, 2007 at 9:11 pmyou are correct, and I/O HD won’t even do uncompressed HD. So input 1 and input 2 are TWO SEPERATE INPUTS – for 2 different VTR’s.
Since I never deal with 4:4:4, in the past, I would have a HD VTR go into a Kona 3 input 1, and have an AJA I/O SDI output go into input 2, and use the Kona Control Panel to select between the 2 inputs.

July 10, 2007 at 5:58 pmIt could be possible that they are future proofing the IOHD incase Apple develops ProRes444 someday. That way it could still connect to dual-link devices.
Just a thought.
